Call of Duty: Black Ops – random thoughts (PC)

How come games are still being released with crash bugs? How come games that have a budget of Russia are still being released with crash bugs?

Why does the screen go mental yellow whenever I alt-tab out of the game?

Can whoever does the Call of Duty games now please remove the “hunt for the hidden items” metagame in future? On one hand, the game is made to make you get into the plot, to make you stressed when a bad thing is about to happen, to make you care. On the other, it asks you to ignore all that and run round the walls of every room while holding down the F key.

Bloody hell, that voice cast couldn’t have been cheap! I know Gary Oldman has been in a few CoD games up to now, but Sam Worthington? Ed Harris? Ice Muthafuckin’ Cube? Fook.

The “kill someone up close” deaths are still cool, but you only ever do them by pressing one button. Crying out for gesture recognition. Make a Kinect-compatible version, that would be ace.

Multiplayer unlocks. The whole thing is a bit tired now. Why not make it random? On each map, stick in an armoury. The armoury will open for the losing side in a match (randomly; only happens once a day, for argument’s sake), and only for 30 seconds, and you can only choose one gun. The gun you choose will be equippable forever going forwards. You’ll have to keep playing (and losing) in order to try and collect ’em all. Yes, I’m turning CoD into Pokemon here, I know this.

“How come games are still being released with crash bugs? How come games that have a budget of Russia are still being released with crash bugs?”

Simple, because people keep on buying them. If everybody refused to buy a game when the first reviews reveal that it’s flakey as fook then developers would soon learn.

I’m as guilty as anybody, I bought New Vegas knowing it was going to crash. I think I’m slowly starting to learn though, will be giving Black Ops a wide berth.
